Nick Syrett has been playing piano since his early teens in an adventurous life that has taken him around the world and back again…

From establishing orphanages in China, organizing large youth events in Jerusalem, and starting a gospel record label in the US to supporting Christian organizations in the Middle East, developing a large prayer ministry in Kansas City, and playing keys at major events around the world—his feet have barely touched the ground.

As a teenager growing up in the United Kingdom, Nick discovered his own world of music through the piano, finding that he could “just play” and that music would pour forth as his fingers touched the keys—without a musical thought in his head beforehand. Later in life he began recording these spontaneous compositions and released a well-received trilogy of piano instrumental albums under the name Solitude.

Nick’s latest release, Refuge is a collection of meditative, neo-classical instrumentals featuring the soothing sounds of string ensembles, choirs, and more, all built around his spontaneous piano solos.

“Sometimes people ask me what I’m thinking about as I play. I’m really not thinking about the music at all—letting my heart and emotions direct the music rather than my mind,” says Nick. “During these particular recordings, I often found my mind drawn to refugees in the Middle East, who were being forced from their homes and experiencing terrible suffering. My prayer is that these simple songs would touch hearts, restore damaged souls, and help many to find healing and peace.”
